Yes, this can be done without taking out the engine.
As far as I know this is also possible with a Sprint
Catman, though not easy.

tried in the Sprint and never stood a chance. Having said that, the
Sprint may have a smaller engine bay, and also has covers over the
belts that the 33 may not.

I'm about to change the cambelts on my 16v for the first time.
Here's a hint. Wait for someone on here to tell you you can do itwith the engine in place, unless you have facilitites to remove it. I
